COTUIT THRIFT SHOP CAPER: Her pink sneakers may have given her away…
COTUIT – A West Yarmouth woman told officers she had pulled over to go to the bathroom, but her pink sneakers told another story, police sources say…
At about 10:30PM last evening, Barnstable Police received a call from a neighbor of the Saint Vincent de Paul Thrift Shop located at 4463 Falmouth Road [Rte. 28] reporting that motion lights were being set off. Then he reported seeing someone poking around behind the shop with a flashlight.
When Barnstable Police Patrolman Thomas Edwards arrived he encountered a woman getting into a blue Honda parked way back from the road in a dark corner of the thrift shop’s parking lot. That’s when the woman told Edwards she had just pulled over to go to the bathroom.
Upon further investigation, Edwards observed what appeared to be thrift shop store merchandise with price tags inside of the woman’s blue Honda.
Officers then noticed what appeared to be fresh sneaker prints in the dirt inside a fenced area behind the store. The suspect had reportedly denied ever entering the area behind the thrift shop, but it had rained earlier and the sneaker prints appeared to be the same size as the pink sneakers the woman was wearing. The soles were also covered with dirt and mud consistent with the ground of the nearby fenced in area…
Based on the suspect’s statements, sneaker evidence, along with other evidence discovered by police, Darlene Armstong, age 56, of West Yarmouth was placed under arrest. But according to sources and actual police radio transmissions, Armstrong was not cooperative and did not go peacefully.
Armstrong was charged with felony Larceny Over for the apparent theft of items kept outside and to the rear of the thrift shop. She was also charged with Trespassing and Resisting Arrest.

Cotuit man arrested for OUI after fellow motorist reported his rear wheels were sparking…

COTUIT – At about 7:40PM last evening, Barnstable Police received a call from a concerned motorist reporting that the vehicle ahead of him was all over the road and that there were sparks coming from its rear wheels.
Barnstable Patrol Officers rushed to the area after the vehicle reportedly turned onto busy Route 28. The vehicle then reportedly drove off the road, became stuck, and was spinning it’s tires in the dirt. The vehicle’s right rear tire was worn down to the rims, reportedly from driving with the emergency brake engaged.
Police officers were able to trace the road damage caused by the rims back to a nearby Cotuit residence. Because the damage went all the way back to the suspect’s driveway, officers were uncertain whether or not the wheel could have been worn down from a prior journey.
Richard Ryan, age 56, of Cotuit, was arrested and charged with OUI and Operating to Endanger.

Intoxicated woman attacked her designated driver…

NEWS BRIEF – This past Thursday evening, Barnstable Police received a 911 call from a highly intoxicated woman who claimed she had just been thrown from her own vehicle and possibly injured.
Officers responded to Starboard Lane in Osterville looking for the female. When they arrived in the area they spoke with a small group walking away from the “victim’s” parked vehicle. According to the sober male designated driver, he became fed up when the vehicle’s owner began to fight with him. The vehicle’s owner was reportedly in the back seat and had suddenly become belligerent and unreasonable. That’s when the designated driver, along with other friends, decided to take the keys and leave the combative female alone with her car while they walked the rest of the way to their destination.
The intoxicated female drew attention to herself when she called police with a story that ultimately turned out to be inaccurate. When police arrived she was inside of her vehicle, she just didn’t have the keys. And that’s a good thing, because she appeared pretty drunk. So much so that she defiantly struggled with officers prior to be taken into protective custody…
