Couple went airborne after running out of road… both passengers sent to CCH… [VIDEO]
BARNSTABLE – A young couple went airborne into the woods after running out of road on Independence Drive.
At about 11:13PM last evening, Barnstable Rescue and the Barnstable Police rushed to the intersection of Mary Dunn Road and Independence Drive for a report of an accident with injuries after a single car crashed into a fence.
First responders initially had trouble locating the vehicle when they arrived on scene. The Nissan Altima had just missed a guard rail and was hidden about 20 to 30 yards up an embankment in a thickly wooded area.
A young female passenger was unconscious and suffering a medical emergency. She was carried out of the woods, quickly loaded into the back of an ambulance and transported to CCH.
The driver was able to self-extricate from the vehicle and walk out of the woods, where he was evaluated by a second rescue team and transported to CCH.
HN briefly spoke with the driver and he admitted driving at a high rate of speed before realizing he had suddenly run out of road. When he hit the brakes, it was too late.
According to sources, the vehicle was airborne before snapping the top off a pine tree and landing up against a chain link fence.
A Barnstable Police accident reconstruction expert was called to investigate…
Although officials were initially very concerned about the unconscious medical condition of the female passenger, she eventually took a turn for the better and both passengers were said to not have life-threatening injuries at the time of this report…
HN arrived along with first responders and the following video highlights rescue efforts and accident reconstruction…
