CRASH KNOCKS DOWN TREE IN CENTERVILLE: A 28-year-old who was allegedly driving and his passenger leave scene, apparently unharmed… [HN VIDEO]
CENTERVILLE – A 28-year-old Centerville man who was allegedly driving and his female passenger are very fortunate they were not seriously hurt after their vehicle knocked down a tree late last evening.
Shortly before midnight, Barnstable Police and COMM Firefighters responded to the area of 314 Bay Lane for a report of a single vehicle crash with airbag deployment.
As you will see and hear in the following HN Video, the first patrolman on scene discovered a heavily damaged vehicle that was reportedly locked up and unoccupied. The small Subaru SUV had just knocked down a decent-sized tree and officers were concerned there may have been injuries…
A registration check and phone call to the alleged driver’s mother led police to a residence just over half a mile away on South Main Street. Officers met with the alleged driver – who did not seem impaired – and also checked on the female passenger. Both alleged driver and passenger did not require emergency medical services…
The following HN Video highlights the suspicious scene and call audio…
UPDATE – HN NOTE: There were no further details available at the time of this report. It was a suspicious scene not only because the heavily damaged vehicle was abandoned, but because the alleged driver walked at least 0.6 miles away to another address on South Main Street, not the registered address on Cove Island Road, which is closer… also, a 78-year-old neighbor within about 50 yards of the crash came out of his home and told HN he didn’t hear the crash, which he found strange… also, shortly prior to the call there were heavy rains which could explain why the 78-year-old man didn’t hear anything – the only apparent witness(es) did not remain on scene – the entire scene is suspicious, to say the least. The Barnstable PD is investigating and HN will provide official updates as they become available.
