DEADLY FENTANYL: South Yarmouth duo charged with Conspiracy to Violate Massachusetts Drug Laws…
SOUTH YARMOUTH – Yesterday – Sunday, February 3, 2019 – Yarmouth Police plainclothes officer Nick Ambrosini pulled over a Nisan Altima on Run Pond Road for a motor vehicle violation. (Officer Ambrosini is a member of the YPD’s Proactive Anti-Crime Unit (PAC-U), a group of plainclothes officers working throughout the community in unmarked cruisers, often focused on enforcing Massachusetts Drug Laws.)
Yarmouth Police Officer Ryan Brule also arrived to backup Officer Ambrosini.
Inside the vehicle on the floor, Officers observed a folded up piece of magazine paper with a small quantity of grayish/white powder. The powder was determined to be the deadly drug Fentanyl, according to a YPD media statement.
The following is from the actual YPD media statement:
Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid that is 80-100 times stronger than morphine.
Pharmaceutical [Fentanyl] was developed for pain management treatment of cancer patients, applied in a patch on the skin. Because of its powerful opioid properties, Fentanyl is also diverted for abuse.
Fentanyl is added to heroin to increase its potency, or be disguised as highly potent heroin. Many users believe that they are purchasing heroin and actually don’t know that they are purchasing fentanyl – which often results in overdose deaths. Clandestinely-produced [Fentanyl] is primarily manufactured in Mexico.
