*** DEVELOPING *** BARNSTABLE HS STUDENT ARRESTED FOR BRINGING REVOLVER, KNIFE ONTO SCHOOL GROUNDS
THE FOLLOWING IS A MESSAGE SENT OUT TO THE SCHOOL COMMUNITY FROM THE BARNSTABLE PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICT… DEVELOPING
“Dear Barnstable Community,
This message is going out to BHS families and staff and is now also being shared across the District.
We are writing to provide some information regarding a concerning situation last night. We want to reassure you that as concerning as this is, the safety of students, staff, and attendees was maintained at all times.
One of our students was arrested on school grounds, outside of the football game, for possession of an unloaded revolver and knife. The items were found when the individual was searched for contraband. The firearm was not loaded and was not brandished. These items were reported to have been brought to intimidate someone thought to be coming to the area but not to be used.
The Barnstable Police Department was notified immediately. The school administration is responding consistent with our school code of conduct, which details the consequences for such serious infractions.
Clearly this incident is not aligned with who we are as a school community and we are thankful that our positive school culture continues to grow stronger and stronger. We will continue to be vigilant to ensure the safety of our students and staff.
Liz Freedman, BHS Principal
Sara Ahern, BPS Superintendent”
