*** NEW DETAILS *** CONNECTICUT WOMAN ARRESTED FOR DRUNK DRIVING AFTER LEAVING HYANNIS CRASH SCENE W/ INJURIES… [HN AUDIO]
UPDATE – 2/11/25 @ 12 NOON:
HYANNIS, MASSACHUSETTS – [UPDATED DETAILS] – According to an arrest report filed by Patrolman Jonathan Moore of the Barnstable Police Department, at around 9:57 a.m. Monday, just prior to arriving at the two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Main Street and Ocean Street, he was advised that one of the vehicles had just fled the scene on Barnstable Road. Patrolman Moore was then flagged down by a Hyannis Firefighter on Barnstable Road who was standing by a red Toyota Corolla that was now stopped approximately 75 to 100 yards away from the initial crash scene. The Hyannis Firefighter reportedly stated that the operator had attempted to leave the scene “multiple times” and appeared to be “under the influence.” Patrolman Moore began speaking with the operator of the red Toyota while a Barnstable Police sergeant was attending to the injured driver of the other vehicle that was still back in the intersection at Main Street and Ocean Street.
According to witness statements, the red Toyota was reportedly traveling the wrong way (north) on Ocean Street into the intersection with Main Street traffic which had a green light and right of way. The speed of the wrong-way red Toyota Corolla was described as “fast” prior to colliding with the second vehicle.
Patrolman Moore reportedly had the driver of the red Toyota exit the vehicle as he removed the keys from the ignition in order to prevent further attempts at fleeing the scene.
The driver’s speech was reportedly slurred and she had difficulty maintaining her balance. She also reportedly had a hard time recalling where she was and how “she got to be in Hyannis.” The driver, who reportedly told officers she was employed as an “office manager,” was said to be unsteady on her feet and having trouble completing field several field sobriety tests.
Bonnie Marie Le, 45, of Torrington, Connecticut, was placed under arrest and charged with OUI – Liquor, Leaving the Scene of a motor vehicle crash with Personal Injury, Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle, and having Open Containers of Alcohol inside the Vehicle.
Patrolman Moore reportedly observed several empty nip bottles inside the vehicle’s center console, seat, purse, and on the floor in a brown paper bag. The bag also had about 6 unopened nips. There was reportedly a receipt for 10 Jim Beam Kentucky Fire Whiskey nips inside the vehicle… and on the passenger-side floor there was said to be a 12 pack of Truly Spiked Berry 12 once hard seltzer cans (5% Alcohol). Also, there was reportedly another unopened box of Truly Spiked seltzer, along with a number of “open containers” of Jim Beam nips also located inside the vehicle within arm’s reach of the driver’s seat.
The red Toyota Corolla was towed and placed under a 12 hour hold due to the drunk driving arrest.
Patrolman Moore then went to check on the injured driver of the second vehicle who was now in the emergency room at Cape Cod Hospital. The driver of the second vehicle reportedly told Patrolman Moore he had been traveling in a westerly direction along Main Street, and that he had a green light as he was entering the intersection at Main Street and Ocean Street. He reportedly stated that the red Toyota “came from the wrong direction fast and side swiped the front of their vehicle.” He was injured by the airbags and was transported to CCH for treatment. He reportedly observed the vehicle that struck them attempting to flee. He reportedly also observed a male in a red truck attempting to stop the red Toyota from fleeing.
According to a witness, she was walking along the road when she was almost struck by the red Toyota.
