The epidemic continues...
One way or another, the local drug epidemic touches everyone. Rich neighborhoods, poor neighborhoods, and all those neighborhoods in between... the pestilence of addiction, illicit narcotics, and the crimes that surround them do not discriminate.
The suspect in tonight's press release is a prime example. A hard working well respected hairdresser and mother had troubling secrets which eventually caught up to her, making her one of the latest prisoners in the local life-consuming drug war.
The following is the actual Barnstable Street Crime Unit Press Release:
Motor vehicle stop results in drug arrest
On January 17th, 2014 Barnstable Street Crime Unit (SCU) members were on patrol in Hyannis.
At approximately 10:31pm, SCU members Yarmouth Officer Nicholas Ambrosini and Barnstable Officer Matthew Blondin were in the area of West Main Street and Pitchers Way, Hyannis.
They observed a blue 2006 Mercedes traveling on West Main Street towards Rte 28.
The vehicle had an expired inspection sticker.
The vehicle was stopped for being uninspected and the driver identified as Jennifer A Costa, age 29, of South Dennis.
While BLONDIN was speaking with COSTA he observed a plastic baggie with what he suspected to be heroin inside the vehicle.
A follow up investigation resulted in the recovery of the heroin.
Also found inside the vehicle was plastic prescription bottle without a legible label.
The pill bottle contained approximately 42 Percocet pills with a street value of approximately $1275.00.
COSTA did not have a prescription for the medication.
She also had $3,289.00 cash on her person.
She was placed under arrest and charges with possession of class B substance/Percocet with intent to distribute, possession of heroin, and uninspected motor vehicle.
Also found on COSTA was a check book reported stolen to Dennis Police Department and blank personal checks belonging to 3 other individuals.
The stolen check book belonged to a 43 year old female from Dennis.
COSTA was her hairdresser and had visited her home.
She had reported fraud activity on her checking account after the theft.
Additional follow up will be conducted and forgery/larceny charges may be filed against COSTA.
The Dennis Police Department was notified about COSTA’s arrest and the items recovered.
COSTA was booked at the Barnstable Police Department and is currently being held on a $2500 cash bail.
She will be arraigned in Barnstable District Court on 01/21/2014.
