UPDATED: Head-on collision closes Route 28 in Dennis… One driver had just fled Yarmouth hit-and-run accident minutes prior… two transported with serious injuries… [VIDEO]
DENNIS PORT – At 5:05pm, a Dennis Patrolman called in a head-on collision on Route 28 in front of The Improper Bostonian bar.
A Jeep Cherokee with New Hampshire license plates was reportedly traveling east when it collided head-on with a Honda Pilot. Both vehicles came to a stop about 35 yards apart. Both vehicles had heavy front-end damage.
Two seriously injured people were carefully extracted from the vehicles, secured onto stretchers, and transported to CCH.
Minutes before the crash Dennis Police were notified about an erratic operator driving a Jeep Cherokee heading toward their town. Yarmouth Police say the driver of the Jeep Cherokee had just fled the scene of another crash on Station Ave in their town…
The crash closed down Route 28 for about 50 minutes…
Police, firefighters, rescue workers, and tow truck operators endured steady rain, heavy downpours, some flooding, and running streams of water as they efficiently attended to the wounded and cleaned up the scene.
The head-on crash is being investigated by the DPD. The hit-and-run accident is being investigated by the YPD. (More details to follow…)
Update: According to sources, a man in his 50s who fled from the scene of an accident in Yarmouth and then crashed head-on with another vehicle in Dennis is said to have a medical issue which may have caused his erratic driving.
At about 4:54pm, the male driver of a Jeep crashed into a sedan on Station Ave in Yarmouth. The driver of the sedan was not injured. The driver of the Jeep left the scene before police arrived.
At 5:05pm, the driver of the Jeep crashed head-on with a driver of a Honda SUV on Route 28 in Dennis. Both drivers were seriously injured. The female driver of the Honda SUV is said to have non-life-threatening injuries. The man in his 50s is said to have some sort of head injury.
Yarmouth Police are investigating the hit-and-run in their town and are in the process of determining what charges to bring against the driver of the Jeep…
