UPDATE: Centerville house fire… caused by smoking materials…
UPDATE: [Media statement from COMM FD] COMM Fire was called by the occupant of 56 Cottonwood Lane reporting
her house on fire. Upon arrival of the first COMM Fire units heavy smoke was pushing from both gable
vents of the home and there was visible fire to the rear exterior of the house.
Firefighters made entry into the home and attacked the fire in the attic while additional fire crews
extinguished the exterior fire and ventilated the roof from the aerial ladder. The fire was quickly knocked
down and a search was completed for possible trapped occupants.
Investigators determined disposal of smoking materials outside the home started the fire.
Crews from Hyannis, Barnstable, and West Barnstable assisted the COMM Fire Department. Mashpee
and Cotuit provided station coverage during the fire.

Whether the fire is actually being investigated as suspicious has not been officially confirmed at the time of this report… but a Barnstable Police arson detective was called to the scene… HN will update as officials look into the exact cause of the fire. Stay tuned.
At about 10:30AM, first fire crews on scene entered the home at 56 Cottonwood Lane and began attacking the fire in the upstairs area. Crews then used the ladder truck to put a team with a chainsaw up onto the roof. A hole was cut to help ventilate the building…
