Driver’s door stops highway bullet…
Hyannis – Just before 11:00pm Barnstable Police were dispatched to the loading dock behind BJ’s Wholesale Club after an employee arrived and noticed his car had been shot while driving to work.

The driver was traveling east on Route 6 somewhere between Exits 4 & 5 when he heard a loud bang. Thinking it was a large rock he continued on…
When he arrived at BJ’s for his 11pm to 7am shift, he took a closer look and was shocked to find a large bullet hole in the driver side door.

The bullet did not completely penetrate through the door thanks an inside metal cross support that took most of the impact…

The owner of the nearly brand new 2013 Toyota Corolla did not recall anything but trees to his left in the median when the bullet struck.
It’s estimated the shot occurred just before 10:45pm…

Massachusetts State Trooper Detschner also responded to BJ’s and it was decided the state police would handle the investigation since the incident occurred out on the highway…
The hole appears to have been caused by a larger caliber round, possibly a 12 gauge shotgun slug…
It was either a very well placed shot or an unlikely freak accident…. Well placed if the shooter was intentionally trying to hit a vehicle traveling 60 to 65 MPH… a shotgun slug across a highway hitting a moving driver side door would be difficult to say the least…
But was it a freak accident from off in the distance? That’s also a possibility…
Also, if it was a nearby hunter in the woods, he was breaking laws for being out after sunset and firing across a highway…
Massachusetts State Police are still investigating and the incident remains unsolved…
