HYANNIS – Just before 12 noon, Hyannis Fire and Rescue, along with Barnstable Police, responded to 586 Main Street after a vehicle drove through one of the storefronts.
An elderly woman, approximately in her 60’s to early 70s, drove over the curb and through the front windows at the Five Eighty Six Bistro & Bar.
Witnesses say the woman appeared to be attempting to park in a handicap spot in front of the bar when she somehow lost control of the vehicle.
The woman was evaluated by rescue and transported to CCH. Sources on scene report she did not receive injuries from the collision.
The scene created a striking spectacle for shoppers and tourists out walking in the downtown area.
The bar owner showed up to survey the damage. The restaurant was closed at the time of the crash and there was no one inside. The bar owner was unsure how long it would take to repair the damage and reopen. It all depends on whether there was structural damage…
The accident is under investigation by the Barnstable Police Department.
