UPDATE: (September 14, 2021) Fatal Pedestrian Crash
The Falmouth Police Department has located a vehicle believed to have been involved in the fatal pedestrian crash that occurred on September 10, 2021 along Grand Avenue in Falmouth Heights.
The investigation has also revealed a person of interest that may have been operating the vehicle at the time of the crash.
The investigation into this incident is active and ongoing.

EARLIER UPDATE: Falmouth PD Media Release
On 09/10/21, at approximately 11:35 PM, officers responded to a car vs. pedestrian crash in the area of 201 Grand Ave. in Falmouth Heights. The vehicle involved fled the scene of the crash. The pedestrian who was struck was an 81 year old male who sustained fatal injuries.
The victim was walking on the sidewalk with three other adults. The other pedestrians were not injured. The vehicle was travelling easterly at a high rate of speed when it travelled onto the sidewalk and struck the victim from behind. The operator did not stop and the vehicle continued easterly on Grand Ave, and onto Menauhant Rd.
The suspect vehicle is believed to be a red sedan that rides low to the ground. The vehicle has heavy windshield damage and likely other serious front end damage.
The Falmouth Police Department and the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office are investigating. The investigation is extremely active and we are studying all of the evidence, including video footage from several area surveillance cameras. INITIAL HN REPORT:
FALMOUTH – A male pedestrian, described as being 81-years-old, was left in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle Friday evening. The vehicle fled the scene at a high rate of speed, according to witnesses.
At around [11:35 p.m.] last evening, Falmouth police and firefighters responded to an area of sidewalk near 197 Grand Ave. A male pedestrian was down and unconscious, suffering from a head injury and broken bones.
A Falmouth Rescue ambulance rushed the unresponsive victim to Falmouth Hospital to meet a Medflight helicopter. (It’s uncertain whether the helicopter actually ended up flying the patient…)
Falmouth Police immediately blocked off the crime scene, putting out a description of the suspect vehicle to all local police departments and the state police. The initial description was a red or dark colored sedan with a smashed windshield. Mashpee police quickly responded to the Falmouth town line to be on the lookout.
Back at the crime scene, police officers spoke with possible witnesses and canvassed the area for cameras, tire marks and other evidence. A member of the Barnstable County Sheriff’s crime scene unit responded for crime scene photos.
