UPDATE – Falmouth Police Department
Press Release:
Subject: Falmouth Crash Involving an Ambulance
On 08/09/19, at approximately 5:30 PM, Falmouth Dispatch received numerous calls regarding a crash on Rt. 151, near Ranch Rd. It was further reported that the crash involved a Mashpee Fire Rescue Department ambulance.
Four people were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Among the injured were two Mashpee paramedics and a patient in the ambulance. All of the vehicles sustained heavy damage and were eventually towed from the scene.
The crash is being investigated by the Falmouth Police Department and the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office. The crash remains under investigation, however, the preliminary analyses indicates the following. The Mashpee ambulance was travelling westerly on Rt. 151 with its emergency lights and siren on. There was a patient and a paramedic in the rear of the ambulance. A Toyota Camry was heading easterly on Rt. 151 and was occupied by the driver and one passenger. As vehicles in both lanes slowed and pulled over for the ambulance, the Camry crossed over the center line and struck the ambulance. The impact caused the ambulance to veer to the left and into the eastbound lane where it hit a Jeep Grand Cherokee head-on before coming to rest on its driver’s side.
The Mashpee PD, Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office, Falmouth FD, Mashpee FD, Bourne FD, Sandwich FD and Cotuit / Osterville / Marstons Mills FD all assisted at the scene.
