UPDATE – INCENDIARY DEVICE FOUND: Detectives, bomb squad techs, and the State Fire Marshal found and confirmed that there was at least one incendiary device at today’s fire in Yarmouth…
HN has footage of the device, which was approximately a foot and a half tall… and about a foot wide. Detectives asked me not to publish those images at this time. But I did take new footage of the scene and inside of the charred building. I also took footage of the state police and the fire marshal removing other evidence having to do with the device…

UPDATE – The following is a brief YPD press statement:
The Yarmouth Police and Fire Departments are currently investigating a suspicious building fire at the site of [the] Cavalier Motel on Rte. 28 in South Yarmouth. The Massachusetts State Police [and Fire] Marshals Office are also assisting.
There were no injuries. The fire is suspicious because the property has been vacant for two years.

At at about 6:30PM, at least six fire companies from surrounding towns rushed to 881 Route 28 for a fully involved two alarm fire inside a vacant motel building.
The building was part of the old Cavalier Motor Lodge, that is currently closed for business.
According radio transmissions, there may have been homeless on the property at one point…
In addition, the State Fire Marshal and two Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad units were also called to the scene… [developing]
There were reportedly eyewitness reports of explosions… and a suspicious package was being investigated…
Route 28 was completely shut down for about two and half hours…
A “lighting plant” was called in from West Barnstable to help with the investigation…
