FLASH: Two suspicious fires suddenly break out in Hyannis neighborhood… State Fire Marshal on scene… [Video of blaze…]
Hyannis – At 11:05pm last night, Hyannis Firefighters and Barnstable Police were called to a house fire in an unoccupied duplex at 14 & 16 Fresh Holes Road…
As soon as firefighters begin working on one fire, another fully engulfed car fire was reported just over a block away at the intersection of Hiramar Road and Route 28…
Firefighters rushed to the stubborn car fire, which seemed to reignite several times… each time after the flames were knocked down…
There also appeared to be a red flare-like glow inside of the SUV, which may or may not have been part of some sort of fire accelerant…
Barnstable Police Lieutenant Michael Clark requested Detective John York to both scenes; York is one of the department’s arson and fire scene investigators…
Route 28 was closed down at Bearses Way and at the entrance to Cape Cod Mall…
Investigators, including the State Fire Marshal, are still on scene investigating as late as 2am, three hours after the time of the initial call…
A tow truck was called in, along with crime scene photographer…
According to Lieutenant Clark, police and fire officials are still actively investigating both suspicious fires…
The following video captures the flames at the fully engulfed car fire… along with footage from the scene of the initial house fire… [Press play]
Police are also looking into whether there is a connection between tonight's fires and other suspicious fires set in the same Fresh Holes/Hiramar Road neighborhood over the past year... (Hyannis News covered three of those fires... one displaced an 89-year-old disabled grandmother, along with other residents... click here for a look back at that story, originally thought to have been caused by some sort of ongoing fight involving a "gang of kids"... but bear in mind, there are several ongoing theories and police have not officially determined who is responsible... )
