HEARTBREAKING: Brand new 2015 Corolla totaled as it drove off lot…
HYANNIS – Kathleen Aguiar, age 21, was looking forward to driving away in her very first new car purchase ever, when something terribly unexpected happened.
At about 5pm, Barnstable Police and Hyannis Rescue rushed to what was originally reported as a two car “MVA with PI” (personal injury) on Route 132 right in front of the Toyota dealership. In fact, the crash happened right at the dealership’s exit, with one vehicle still in the driveway, to be more exact.
The car that was still in the driveway belonged to Kathleen; she had just bought it and now it was completely totaled. The airbags had deployed and appeared to have done their job, as Kathleen walked away apparently uninjured.
Both drivers were looked at by Hyannis Rescue, with both drivers refusing further medical treatment. In terms of injuries, things weren’t as bad as they had originally sounded.
HN recognized the young driver of the brand new 2015 black Toyota Corolla. Kathleen Aquiar is an ambitious young lady who works at a local dentist office. She’s also an Army Reservist, currently putting herself through nursing courses at Cape Cod Community College. She works very hard for her money and today was a big day for her. In fact, Kathleen was looking forward to driving her new wheels to training exercises at Fort Devens this coming weekend. But now everything was suddenly different…
Kathleen was disappointed to say the least, but she didn’t spend too long dwelling on it. When HN spoke with her earlier this evening she was already working on plan B. Her first concern was whether the insurance company was going to fully pay to replace her now very depreciated new car. Her concerns were alleviated when an investigating officer reportedly told her the other driver may be receiving a citation. If Kathleen is found to be not at fault, she would likely have no problem collecting the full value of her new car. The Barnstable Patrolman in charge of the investigation was still working on the report at the time of this article… HN will check back again later and provide more details as they become available.
Kathleen’s second concern was the fact she needed a car to commute to work, college, and army training. She told HN she’s considered too young to rent a vehicle in Massachusetts. According to Kathleen, you have to be at least 25-years-old to rent a car. However, she told HN she believes her friends will help her out in the days to come…
As for the other vehicle, it was a Jeep Cherokee and was apparently traveling in a north-westerly direction along Route 132 when it collided with the Corolla.
Both vehicles needed to be towed from the scene.
One thing is for certain, a hard working ambitious woman like Kathleen needs a set of wheels to get things done. We wish her the very best.
Stay tuned for updates…
