Hit-and-Run on Route 28: Two Pedestrians Struck as Driver Flees in Dark SUV

WEST YARMOUTH, MASSACHUSETTS — A dark-colored SUV struck two pedestrians on busy Route 28 Tuesday night before speeding away from the scene, leaving one person injured and police with almost no leads.
Yarmouth police and firefighters rushed to 518 Route 28, near Springer Lane, around 9:20 p.m. on June 23 after reports of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle. Initial radio traffic indicated one victim was conscious with a possible shoulder injury. Arriving crews quickly learned two people had been hit and the driver had fled.
One pedestrian was transported to Cape Cod Hospital, banged up, but with injuries not considered life-threatening at the time of this report. Because the patient is from Kazakhstan, responders requested a translator be arranged at Cape Cod Hospital in advance. The emergency room was placed on trauma alert.
The second pedestrian was evaluated at the scene by Yarmouth Fire Department ambulance personnel and did not require hospital transport.
Police have little to go on beyond the description of a dark-colored SUV. The investigation remains active.
