HN CRIME SCENE VIDEO: 27-year-old Hyannis man arrested for assault with dangerous weapon… alleged handgun not located after “protective sweep” of residence housing 5-week-old baby…
HYANNIS – Sunday morning – November 18th, 2018 – at about 1:07 am, multiple Barnstable Police squad cars responded to 14 Terry Court for a report of an assault with a firearm involved.
According to a police report, a woman went to 14 Terry Court to collect money from someone who lived there.
The woman had been speaking to an adult male inside the residence when she says a second adult male became angry and started to yell at her. The woman went on to say the angry man then grabbed her by her shirt collar and pulled her out of the house. A struggle ensued and the victim said she had lost one of her earrings outside in the road.
The victim alleges the angry man had a black handgun in one hand as he pulled her down the road away from the residence.
The victim only knew the man as “Jeff,” but officers later identified him as Jeffrey Edwards, age 27, of 14 Terry Court in Hyannis.
Police also learned a another woman and her 5-week-old baby were also residing inside the home during the alleged scuffle.
Edwards was handcuffed and placed in the back of a cruiser after exiting the home. Edwards reportedly told cops he didn’t get along with the victim because of her drug use… and that he had approached her to tell her to be quiet. Edwards went on to deny ever having a handgun that evening and told officers they could search the entire house if they wanted to.
Worried about the safety of others, especially the small baby, officers conducted a protective sweep of the residence, but were unable to locate the alleged firearm.
Occupants of the home were also unable to corroborate the victim’s allegations of there ever being a handgun involved in the scuffle.
Officers did, however, reportedly find a gold hoop style earring on the ground approximately 25 to 30 feet away from a doorway into the home.
Jeffrey Edwards was told he was being arrested and charged with Assault by Dangerous Weapon/Firearm, along with Assault & Battery. Edwards was transported back to BPD Headquarters, booked, and placed in cell 7.
Edwards was arraigned on Monday, November 19th, 2018, at about 8:30 am, at Barnstable District Court, where he was later released on personal recognizance after being ordered to have no contact with the alleged victim.
