HN DASHCAM VIDEO – DEER STRIKE: Deer survives heavy hit…
WEST BARNSTABLE – The following HN Dashcam Video shows a deer strike where a young buck collided with HN’s vehicle.
The collision happened just minutes after midnight this morning on Route 6A.
The deer took a heavy hit but got right up and scampered off into the woods. It’s a good thing HN was traveling the posted speed because it allowed me an extra split second to immediately hit the brakes, which definitely dampened the impact.
Deer strikes vs. automobiles happen several times a day in this region. Usually there is a lot more damage to the vehicle. HN’s vehicle came out of it with relatively minor damage and I hope the young buck was okay too. It appeared to be fine after running off and was long gone before I left the area.
This is what a deer strike looks like. They come without warning. The footage shows just how fast and sudden it happens and why it’s important to drive defensively and at posted speeds…
CAUTION – I can tell you right now, some will find the following footage disturbing… so DON’T WATCH IT! Unless you are able to view it for your own edification and without freaking out… The good news is the young deer seemed to be okay (let’s hope). Again, these things happen often around here and it’s never pleasant.
