HN PHOTOS: 73-YEAR-OLD ENTRAPPED AFTER VEHICLE CRASHES THROUGH GUARDRAIL ON RTE. 6
YARMOUTH, Massachusetts – A 73-year-old man was entrapped inside his vehicle after crashing through a length of guardrail and down an embankment into brush and scrub-oaks along a section of Mid-Cape Highway median last evening.
The single vehicle crash happened shortly before 11:00 p.m. on Route 6 eastbound, just prior to Exit 75 (the old Exit 8).
The midsized sedan needed to be stabilized by Yarmouth Firefighters prior to extrication. The patient was in a lot of pain, but conscious and able to communicate with EMTs.
The passing lane needed to be shut down for a period of time as first responders worked the scene. Once the patient was removed, he was secured onto a stretcher and hoisted up and over the guardrail. He was then transported to Cape Cod Hospital in a YFD ambulance.
A length of guardrail was completely mangled, protruding out onto the highway’s shoulder, and the highway division at Mass. DOT needed to be notified.
Two wreckers from Silver Cloud Towing had their hands full carefully working around the twisted guardrail while removing the vehicle back up and out of the median.
The Massachusetts State Police is investigating the cause of the crash.
