*** HN PHOTOS *** MASSIVE RESCUE ATTEMPT: Man recovered from water at School Street Docks…
HYANNIS – Rescuers recovered a man from the water at the School Street Docks yesterday afternoon. He had been submerged for about an hour and was apparently in cardiac arrest at the time of being loaded into a Hyannis Fire Department ambulance. Firefighters were still working on the man but the outcome wasn’t optimistic according to a fire official on scene.
The suicidal man had reportedly been transported to Cape Cod Hospital from Kalmus Beach earlier in the day. Later yesterday afternoon, police rushed to the Lewis Bay boat ramp for a report of hospital staff struggling with an eloped patient who had been trying to enter the water. The man had managed to shed his clothes and enter the water, swimming across the harbor toward the Steamship Authority. He briefly exited the water onto a dock and then reentered before responding police and firefighters could reach him, according to various sources. Camera footage from local businesses helped firefighters and police estimate the location where the man went under the water. Hyannis rescue divers were able to recover the man’s body about an hour after he had submerged. It was then a race to apply advanced life support and transport the man back to CCH. The outlook was less than positive at the time of these photos, despite the rapid response and efforts of first responders from across the region… and there are no further details available at the time of this report.
