HN PHOTOS: OFFICIALS INVESTIGATE EMPTY BOAT
OSTERVILLE, Massachusetts – [HN Photo Notes] – Police, firefighters, and the harbormaster were searching the area of Dowses Beach at around 8:00 p.m. last evening after an empty boat was found washed up on a sandbar. The old boat did not have hull numbers and the engine was onboard. Because of damage and wear on the small boat, it did not appear to have been in recent operation, and it may have possibly been adrift and unoccupied before washing ashore. Officials searched the water and shoreline nonetheless, out of an abundance of caution. They also investigated a vehicle parked in the vicinity of a nearby boat ramp. All investigation efforts were reportedly inconclusive at the time of this report. The boat had been visible earlier at low tide and had been submerged by the incoming tide, marked off with a buoy, at the time of the above HN Photos… just prior to officials calling off the search for the evening. Plans were discussed regarding the removal of the sunken boat in the morning.
