HN PHOTOS: “The Golfers”
Somewhere in Yarmouth, Massachusetts

66°F, mostly clear.

A fellow golfer: “Howya doin’, Frank?”
Frank: “It’s all good. I don’t care what they say.” Puffs his cigar. Examines the lid on a paper coffee cup. Looks over at me. Asks, “How you doin’?”
Me: “I’m good, thanks.”
Frank: “Whatcha up to?”
Me: “Oh, I’m just a photojournalist…”
Frank: “I can see that – you gotta get out here!”
I shrug. Mumble something about always having to work…
Walking away I think, ‘You know, maybe he’s right. Maybe someday.’
*sigh*
I carefully pull back into the busy morning traffic. Aiming the Blue Shark toward Hyannis. There’s a faint squeak on the left side. The brake pads probably need looking at, I think. But not today. Not now – Time for a beer. A book. Sleep. To wake up as the sun’s setting again, God willing. To do it all over again. Whatever this thing is…
I think about the guy sitting on the cart. Puffing his cigar, at peace. Saying, “It’s all good. I don’t care what they say.”
The music plays. The mind drifts. The sun warms the face and heart. Pleasant dreams come to mind again…
Thanks, Frank! Maybe someday.
