*** HN PHOTOS *** TROOPERS FROM YARMOUTH BARRACKS CAPTURE BOSTON MAN WANTED FOR CARJACKING, A&B DANGEROUS WEAPON
WEST BARNSTABLE – [HN PHOTO NOTES] – Early this morning, a Massachusetts State Trooper out of the Yarmouth barracks rolled up on what she initially thought was simply a disabled vehicle on the side of Route 6 eastbound. A second trooper, also out of the Yarmouth barracks, was nearby on the opposite side of the highway. She used a highway cutout to cross over onto the eastbound side, in order to assist if necessary.
A male passenger in the vehicle drew the attention of the troopers. A computer check was made, and moments later dispatch informed both troopers the man was from the Hyde Park neighborhood in Boston, and that he had two active warrants for his arrest on serious charges. The first warrant was for Carjacking and Possession of a Class A Substance. The second warrant was for Assault & Battery with a Dangerous Weapon, as well as Assault & Battery on a Person Over Age 60, according to radio transmissions.
Out of a pressing concern, dispatch inquired a couple times about whether the wanted man was in custody. Several long moments later, one of the troopers updated dispatch that he was secured in custody. “Outstanding!” was the reply from an older trooper who sounded as if he may have been their supervisor.
One of the troopers then radioed the suspect was complaining of rib pain and spitting up blood. Rescue was notified.
The suspect in custody was then quickly transported to the front parking lot at the Yarmouth barracks where they were met by a Yarmouth FD ambulance. He was evaluated and transported to Cape Cod Hospital. And he was still under arrest on the warrants, which required one of the troopers to accompany rescue in order to watch the patient while he was being treated.
The moral to the story? One never knows what they will encounter on the side of an inky dark highway during the wee hours.
