Initial HN coverage:
HYANNIS – In October of 2016, Matthew Monroe pleaded guilty to being a Felon in Possession of a Firearm after he sold a semi-automatic Uzi to a cooperating witness during the federal investigation into the Nauti-Block street gang.
In 2013, Monroe was also convicted of Breaking and Entering.
In the September of 2017, at age 27, Monroe was sentenced to two years in federal prison on the Uzi rap. Monroe was also sentenced to three years of “supervised release” following his prison term.
According to unofficial sources, a suspect in crime from earlier this past week, later identified as allegedly being Matthew Monroe, showed up to the residence of an ex-girlfriend and allegedly pulled a knife on a male before fleeing the area. Police had “probable cause” for the arrest of “Matthew Monroe.”
Fast forward to late last evening, Barnstable Police Officer Joe Green was patroling in the area of Bearses Way in an unmarked cruiser when he suddenly came over the radio announcing he was involved in a foot chase.
As you will see and hear in the following HN Video, I was also in the area when Green began chasing the suspect in the direction of the Hyannis Fire Department.
The chase only lasted a minute or two – at most – when HN rolled up to the intersection of Stevens Street and Bassett Lane, where Officer Green had quickly taken down and cuffed the suspect.
The suspect, Matthew Monroe, was arrested on a warrant and transported back to the BPD to possibly face additional charges…
Check back from official updates from the BPD.
* All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
