HYANNIS FIREFIGHTERS INVESTIGATING EARLY MORNING APARTMENT FIRE… [HN PHOTOS]
HN PHOTO NOTES: Hyannis Firefighters and Barnstable Police patrol officers responded to the Church Bell Apartments at 215 Main Street this morning for reports of smoke in the building, at around 3:00 a.m. The building has about 15 apartments and all of the residents appeared to have evacuated safely. According to radio transmissions, firefighters found a pile of clothes smoldering inside a closet and began checking for extension. Fire hoses were then charged. Barnstable patrol officers shut down a section of Main Street. The residents of the apartment with the closet fire told HN that it smelled electrical. Building management was called to respond. A member of the sheriff’s crime scene unit responded to take photographs. Residents were finally allowed to come in from the cold and return to their apartments about an hour after the initial alarm. The Red Cross was called to the scene to help two residents who were displaced by the fire. An ambulance responded to the apartments and one person was taken to Cape Cod Hospital. (It’s uncertain whether the rescue call was related to the fire.) The Hyannis Fire Department was on scene investigating of the fire for over two and a half hours. Firefighters were still very busy at the time of the above photos and no further details available at the time of this report…
