“BACK THE BLUE” ON ONE SIDE OF STREET, “DEFUND THE POLICE” ON OTHER, “LOVE LOCAL FEST” SOMEWHERE RIGHT DOWN THE MIDDLE! [HN PHOTOS]
“You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view… until you climb into his skin and walk around in it.”
~ The character named Atticus Finch, in To Kill a Mockingbird, the Pulitzer Prize winning novel by Harper Lee…
HYANNIS – [HN NOTES] – I was tipped off about a lively protest on Main Street Hyannis, earlier this afternoon. I was told an organization called “Back the Blue” was going to be protesting Bread & Roses, a Hyannis “café, bookshop, and bar.” The beef seemed to be over an anti-police sign hanging inside of the establishment, along with some anti-cop stickers. Unbeknownst to HN, there has apparently been a debate online about the sign and stickers. In response to “Back the Blue” showing up, supporters of Bread & Roses organized a counter-protest of their own.
It was peaceful. And actually, I thought everyone got along rather congenially considering their divided, contrasting views regarding police in America.
In the first/top HN photo I noticed there was another separate banner promoting a “local love fest.” [It was flying in the middle of the street, directly between both opposing groups.]
I chose that as the “top” photo because I found it interesting and truthful. We’re all Americans. We are all in this together. And I’m cool with deeply differing opinions and protests as long as peace and love find their way into the heart of the matter.
