A HATEFUL, MALICIOUS CRIME MOST FOUL! [HN PHOTOS]

HYANNIS – [HN NOTES – DEVELOPING STORY] – In many Latin American cultures, it’s not unusual for family celebrations to take place late at night. In Mexico, where my daughter was born and raised during her early years, family would plan parties late in the evening for a couple reasons that come to mind. For one, it was a way to avoid the blistering desert heat, and it was also a time when everyone would be finished and cleaned up after long hours of their daily grind in extremely harsh arid conditions, in a culture that still took siestas after their mid-day meal. Large family celebrations of the Holy Sacraments were at the heart of everything. And although the traditions of Latin Americans vary across Mexico, Central and South America. One thing is universal, these are peoples who largely value family, compassion, and brotherly love. Which is why last evening’s acts of hate were especially confusing for the otherwise happy young children up late, celebrating a long anticipated wedding feast and celebration with family and friends.
Shortly after midnight, Barnstable Police responded to a typically quiet and peaceful Hyannis family neighborhood (in the area of Rte. 28 and the Barnstable Intermediate School) for reports that someone had just slashed the tires of several vehicles parked outside of a wedding celebration.
Assisted by the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Crime Scene Unit, officers began to photograph and process at least 6 vehicles with slashed tires and scratched paint jobs.
Sometime prior to everyone exiting the house party, someone had crept along the wood line, puncturing tires and “keying” paint.
While HN spoke with several of the partygoers, still stunned and confused as to who could have done such an unprovoked act of hate, several recalled a man who came by earlier making hateful statements about how this was not their country, that America was not their country, etc..
Also, earlier in the evening, police reportedly received an anonymous complaint about the allegedly loud noise coming from the party, according to one source. NOTE: This is developing story and police have not officially released any updated details, and the investigation is very active and ongoing.
Police put out a description of an older model black Chevy pickup truck, possibly with an American Flag on the back… possibly somehow related to the malicious destruction. Also, at around 1:30 a.m., officers stopped and questioned a middle-aged man out walking in the area, also possibly related to the hate.
At the time of this report, no arrests have been made and local police are still investigating.
