HN PHOTOS: HAPPY 101st BIRTHDAY MABEL!

HYANNIS – “She’s a firecracker!” a close friend of the family told HN prior to today’s 101st birthday celebration/parade.

The adorable family matriarch in the following HN photos turns 101-years-old tomorrow. Her name is Mabel Galvin and she was born and raised on Cape Cod. Her maiden name was Roderick. According to Ginny Lane, a close family friend, Mabel raised 5 children here locally. Her husband passed away when her oldest son was just 13-years-old, so she raised all 5 young children alone in Harwich before moving to her current General Patton Drive address in Hyannis, in 1995. Sadly, one of her children, her only daughter, also passed away but I’m told Mabel “still keeps the faith” and lives every single day to its fullest.

Mabel is a well loved and respected Hyannis treasure. HN had the honor of meeting her beautiful family today, from her sons to her great grandchildren. The smiles and warmth by all those who attended was inspirational and invigorating.

Lastly, I briefly spoke with one of Mabel’s granddaughters. Apparently Mabel has quite the sense of humor. I don’t remember the exact words, but her grandmother recently let them all know that since she was now 101-years-old, she wasn’t going to take anymore of their [bleep]! The granddaughter laughed, quite aware of how amazing today’s celebration was.
