SOUTH YARMOUTH – The “funny thing” is that it wasn’t funny, and officers had to waste their valuable time waiting for the teenage boys to put the signs back.

Yarmouth police officers were called to the area of Gay Head Way early this morning after a someone called 911 reporting several juveniles stealing a “Gay Head Way” road sign.

Officers arrived right after the adolescents had already made off with two Gay Head Way signs, including an attached Nantucket Ave sign as well.

Officers then encountered a couple of suspicious juveniles nearby and after a brief investigation knew they had caught up to the childish sign thieves. And although adults on scene were not particularly thrilled and could have arrested the teens (there ended up being a total of three) for being Banaheads in the Nighttime (along with other charges related to their recent criminal mischief), officers instead opted to make the repentant snippersnappers fetch the stolen signs and put them back where they belonged.

The kids caught a huge break, and also promised they would never be the subject of an HN Video ever again…

… and they better not be.
