HN DOWNTOWN DRUNKEN DRAMA ALERT: “Girls’ night out” edition… [HN VIDEO]
“Everybody’s got to believe in something. I believe I’ll have another beer.”
~ W.C. Fields
HYANNIS – [HN NOTES] – Drunks, they are as much a part of the Cape Cod tourist industry as whale watching, fried clams and beach blankets. And like everything else “touristy,” we tend to tolerate these drunks during the summer months, just as long as they pay their tabs and don’t jump behind the wheel…
Online, the Urban Dictionary defines a boozebag as “someone who consumes copious amounts of alcohol…”
… but it should also add, “and visits Cape Cod bars while often annoying locals during the tourist season.”
Weary and long suffering when it came to drunken tourists, a childhood friend of mine used to always ask, “If it’s called ‘tourist season’ why can’t we shoot them?” And I’d reply, “because it’s against the law.” And he’d say, “it’s so unfair, having to always put up with their bullshit.” To which I’d commiserate, “Yeah. It sucks. Wanna get a beer?”
The following HN Video highlights a scene from early this morning on Main Street, where police responded to a disturbance shortly after the bars closed. Prior to HN arriving on scene, someone had been arrested for drama having to do with a knife. Nobody was hurt. And a small crowd decided it best to clear out as more police arrived and shooed them away.
Just about everyone promptly left the area… everyone except three young women, apparently on some type of drunken “mission from Gawd!”
There’s so much more I could and should say about this morning’s festivities but I’m weary…
… sorry, I just can’t.
(HN NOTE: These three young drunken women were not charged with any crimes. One, however, was taken into protective custody… for obvious reasons…)
