UPDATE: BPD believes Main Street gunplay was not random… (see below)


HYANNIS – [DEVELOPING] – Barnstable Police are investigating a gun battle where numerous shots were fired (10 to 15, or more) on the Main Street sidewalk in front of the Blue Moon restaurant and Sturgis Charter School early this morning. According to radio traffic and sources, it appears as though the victim may have returned fire with his own gun… (details not yet officially confirmed… HN has been told there will be a press release soon…)
The call came in at 1:05 a.m. and police eventually caught up to a victim in a vehicle in the area of Louis Street and Grove Street. As you will hear in the following HN Video, the victim said he had been shot but declined transport to CCH.
HN was on scene this morning, hours after the incident, where a Barnstable Patrolman found yet more shell casings and damage to a tree.
Earlier this morning, crime scene tape was used to cordon off an area around some broken plate glass windows. HN photographed two apparent bullet holes in the windows of a showcase connected to the Sturgis Charter School.

BPD MEDIA STATEMENT/UPDATE: On October 17, 2020 at approximately 0100 the Barnstable Police Department responded to the Blue Moon restaurant on Main St Hyannis for reports of gunshots. Responding units identified one male victim suffering from minor injuries that did not require treatment. Further investigation revealed an altercation took place in front of the establishment between two males who both fired their weapons. This does not appear to be random and the incident remains under investigation by the Barnstable Police Detective Division.
