HYANNIS – [DEVELOPING] – Barnstable Police are investigating the brazen theft of a purse that occurred earlier this evening in a West End neighborhood, in the area of Sea Street and Maple Ave. The victim had just stepped inside her home for a moment when a male wearing a backpack, black mask and dark colored clothing took her purse from inside her vehicle parked footsteps away, in the driveway. The suspect is said to have then fled in the direction of the West End Rotary. Barnstable Police deployed one of their K9 units and began a track in the area. At one point, officers converged on a male who closely fit the suspect’s description. The potential suspect, alarmed at first, ultimately cooperated with officers, allowing the victim to have a look at him in order to rule him out. A member of the Barnstable Sheriff’s Crime Scene Investigation unit responded to process the victim’s vehicle for finger prints. There were no further details available at the time of this report… and the investigation is active and ongoing.
