HYANNIS – A driver who just crashed through a guardrail reportedly told cops he was in the Town of Wellfleet, Massachusetts. He wasn’t. He was in Hyannis. At the Lewis Bay Boat Ramp. The pickup truck resting just footsteps from the harbor was reportedly just stolen.
At around 12:00 midnight, Barnstable Police patrol officers responded after receiving a report from witnesses.
As you will see in the following HN Video, the driver attempted completing a couple of field sobriety tests. He appeared very unsteady and was subsequently arrested for Operating Under the Influence, along with Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle. A towing company yanked the pickup off the rocks and back out through the shattered guardrail.
Meanwhile, across town on Pearl Street, a man was trying to locate his truck shortly after bar closing. It should have been parked behind the Sturgis Charter School but wasn’t. The blue Chevy pickup had been stolen, and turned out being the same pickup from the Lewis Bay Boat Ramp guardrail caper.
According to sources, the driver of the stolen pickup will receive the additional charge of Larceny of a Motor Vehicle.
