*** WATCH *** SHOOTING VICTIM DOWNTOWN HYANNIS: Police and firefighters scramble to help unresponsive man on Main Street… [UPDATED DETAILS]
HYANNIS – Barnstable Police and state troopers rushed toward Main Street after reports of a male shooting victim inside a car.
At around 9:30 p.m., first responders located the male shooting victim inside a sedan stopped in the middle of Main Street, just past the intersection with Bassett Lane. The road was completely shut down due to the sudden traffic caused by the vehicle taking up the one and only lane. A Hyannis FD ambulance was rerouted down Sea Street and up Main Street the wrong way.
A young adult male was unconscious when placed on the stretcher. EMTs appeared to be doing CPR. The patient was loaded into a Hyannis ambulance and transported from the scene.
A section of Main Street was taped off and completely closed down for a period of time as police worked the scene. Outdoor diners, children and families watched the entire emergency scene unfold. The scene put a damper on things as some visitors packed up to leave the area.
Meanwhile, police also worked a scene in the area of Veteran’s Beach on Ocean Street, believed to possibly be shooting scene, according to initial police radio transmissions. In Dennis, state police transmissions revealed that a suspect had possibly been taken into custody but that the firearm had not been recovered.
