*** WATCH *** Startled homeowner looked up to see car crashed through front wall of home…
HYANNIS – [INITIAL HN NOTES] – At around 6:30 p.m. this evening, Barnstable Police responded to 120 Old Craigville Beach Road for a report a car had just crashed into a home. Upon arrival, officers found a car crashed through the front wall of the home. The home owner was inside at the time of the crash, and other than being visibly shaken, he wasn’t injured. Water from a the heating system along the exterior wall was gushing out and there was a rush into the basement to shut down the home’s water supply. Recent home improvements in the front room of the residence were now splintered across the living room floor toward the rear kitchen where the homeowner had reportedly been eating his supper.
There were apparently two young women inside the vehicle at the time of the crash. Both were up walking around when HN arrived on scene. One of the young ladies was evaluated and then transported to Cape Cod Hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening.
Early unofficial reports on the cause of the accident are that the crashed sedan had swerved to avoid running into a pizza delivery vehicle backing out onto Old Craigville Beach Road. The roads were said to have been slippery when the sedan suddenly left the straightaway, plowing through a large rhododendron bush, then into the doorstep and outer wall of the home.
Police stayed on scene until a home disaster outfit could arrive and begin patching up the gaping hole in the domicile’s front wall.
The Barnstable Police Department is investigating the cause of the crash.
