WILD SCENE: Police looking for “5 masked men” after man shot in...

UPDATE – BPD MEDIA STATEMENT: On 01/31/2020 at approximately 11:30 pm the Barnstable Police Department responded to reports of a disturbance on Dumont Drive in Hyannis. Upon arrival one male victim of a gunshot wound was discovered. The male was transported to Cape Cod Hospital by the Hyannis Fire Department where he underwent surgery.

The male remains in serious but stable condition.

The incident remains under investigation by Barnstable Police and State Police Detectives.

INITIAL HN REPORT:

HYANNIS – The call came in shortly before midnight about a man who had just been shot in the chest at 64 Dumont Drive… and as you will see in the initial HN Dashcam footage, HN was nearby and arrived on scene several minutes prior to cruisers (chunks of dashcam footage have been edited out) and had time to take a position at the top of Dumont Drive…

The HN Video shows officers arriving with rifles and guns drawn, hustling their way toward the scene as quickly and cautiously as possible.

You’ll hear a patrolman confirming that a man was shot in the chest, radioing for someone to grab a medical bag…

Hyannis Fire Department arrived with an ambulance and engine crew as soon as the scene was secured. Cape Cod Hospital was placed on trauma alert while the victim was being transported.

The shooting happened very close to shift change and an incoming police sergeant wisely began to order cruisers to lock down the neighborhoods south of South Street toward the water. It was believed that “5 masked men” fled toward Sea Street, away from the entrance to Dumont Drive, which is a dead end road. A police K-9 unit hit the ground tracking and officers had a pretty good shot at taking down the fleeing suspects…

At the time of this report, 4:50 a.m., the victim was still fighting for his life and the alleged suspects were still at large. State Police and Barnstable County crime scene technicians were also still on scene at the time of this report.
