CAR VS. CEMENT COVID BLOCK: Woman cited for texting while ramming Hyannis lane closure monolith… [HN PHOTOS]
HYANNIS – [HN NOTES] – Some people love them, others hate them, and of course I’m talking about the downtown Hyannis COVID blocks, placed on this earth (like something out of a Stanley Kubrick film) to make everyone just a little bit safer and more civilized. They are supposed to protect the emerging dazed masses as they blindly crawl out of their COVID caves for the first time… so they can safely forage for snacks on the North side of Main Street without a care in the world. If you, however, develop a hankerin’ for something on the South side of the street, you’re on your own – please be especially cautious on the South side of Main Street – the barrier-less side is only for those brave souls with lots of practice, able to quickly dodge fog-headed motorists as they fly off the roadway.
Anyways…
This morning around 2:30 a.m., a Hyannis Rescue ambulance came upon a disabled crashed vehicle blocking Main Street on their way to a call. Luckily for everyone, the ambulance was able to turn down a side street and make it to their destination on time.
The female driver was not injured and Barnstable Police officers were notified about the whole rammed block situation.
According to sources, the female driver was on the pavement, trying to inspect the vehicle’s undercarriage as officers arrived on scene. She was given field sobriety tests, which she passed. After a brief investigation, a patrolman informed her she was not going to jail, but was receiving a citation for texting while driving.
The vehicle was towed from the scene and Main Street was reopened. A COVID block was thrown out of alignment and a flower box took a spill (see HN Photo, below…). Both will likely be fixed up “good as new” in the foreseeable future, as our diligent government awakens and springs into action…
