HYANNIS – The Barnstable Police Department is investigating a crash that happened on South Street at the beginning of the school zone at Pine Ave this afternoon. The crash happened right around dismissal time for the St. John Paul II prep school. Airbags and air curtains deployed in both vehicles. The speed limit leading up to the school zone is 35MPH. The speed limit in the school zone is 20MPH. A female driver was evaluated for minor injuries. A second female driver was uninjured, reportedly on her way to pick up her child. The Barnstable Police Department is investigating the cause of the crash. No pedestrians were hit.
HN NOTE: The stretch of South Street between Sea Street and Ocean Street is notorious for serious crashes, especially at the dangerous intersection with High School Road. The area is well marked with speed limits, children/pedestrian crossing signage, along with school zone signage.
