HN PHOTOS: An ordinary overnight…
TOP HN PHOTO: “Wanted by the court…”
The male in this photo was arrested on a default warrant in the East End of Hyannis Friday evening. The warrant was for the charges of Assault & Battery on a Family Member and Witness Intimidation. A “default warrant” is usually issued by the court when someone fails to appear for a court date; it may also be issued for failure to comply with a court order. Because it’s a default warrant, this suspect will be held in jail without bail until court reopens on Monday morning.

Barnstable police officers responded to a report of a crash Friday evening. They found a damaged utility pole on Braggs Lane in Barnstable and eventually located the above vehicle tucked away on a side street, several blocks away. A phone call took officers to an address in Centerville to have a word with the 19-year-old female driver about why she left the scene. Officers allegedly encountered the driver in a highly intoxicated state. The driver also allegedly became belligerent, donkey kicking an arresting officer. She is being charged with Operating Under the Influence, Leaving the Scene, Assault & Battery on a Police Officer, and possibly other charges related to Being a Belligerent Bucking Burro in the Nighttime.

A Barnstable Police Patrolwoman became very concerned about a man staggering alone down the sidewalk in the East End of Hyannis shortly after the bars closed this morning. Officers tried to find out if there was a responsible sober person who could come pick him up. There wasn’t, which left officers with little other choice but to take the gentleman back with them to police headquarters in protective custody until he sobered up. (A lot of ugly things could happen to a highly intoxicated individual that time of night in the East End…)

The dispatcher could hear the early morning 911 caller crying. A search of a Hyannis neighborhood brought officers to an apartment where they reportedly found a domestic violence victim. A language interpreter and crime scene photographer were also called to the residence. About a half hour into the call, an alert patrolman noticed the suspect driving in the area of the residence. A stop was made, followed by an arrest for Domestic Assault & Battery and Intimidation of a Witness.
HN NOTE: There’s no such thing as a quiet overnight in this part of the Cape. And the numerous “ordinary” calls that happen throughout the overnights are anything but “ordinary” to the individuals involved in these often life-changing events.
* All suspects are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
