HN PHOTOS: Missing 88-year-old found lying down on neighbor’s deck…
WEST YARMOUTH – Shortly after midnight, Yarmouth Firefighters found a missing 88-year-old woman lying down on a neighbor’s deck. She was very cold and needed immediate aide to bring her body temperature back up to normal.
Police and firefighters had been searching a West Yarmouth neighborhood for the elderly dementia patient. She had reportedly been missing since 3:00 p.m. yesterday afternoon. (There’s still some question about exactly how long she had actually been outside and missing. Yarmouth Police are investigating.) Yarmouth Police Officers, however, had been searching for her for the better part of two hours. The temperature at the time she was found by firefighters was 40° F, a dangerously low temperature for someone her age.
Members of the state police had also been out searching the area and they had been preparing to launch one of their helicopters moments prior to her being located.
The woman was cold but able to communicate with first responders. She was immediately placed into a warm ambulance, where EMTs continued to treat her with “warming devices.” She was then transported to Cape Cod Hospital for further care.
