*** WATCH *** Male allegedly displayed handgun during road rage...

HYANNIS – At around 9:30 p.m. last evening, Barnstable patrol officers responded to the area of Ocean Street after receiving a report that an adult male had displayed a handgun during a road rage incident.

Officers first spoke with the alleged victim at the Ocean Street docks. Earlier, she reportedly followed the suspect into the Veterans Beach parking lot after some type of near-car-collision. She then reportedly confronted the other driver about the near-collision. The incident escalated when the other driver allegedly lifted up his shirt, displaying a handgun in his waistband. The woman was reportedly frightened by the handgun and called police. When speaking with officers nearby, at the Ocean Street docks, she reportedly gave them a description of the suspect and his vehicle.

As you will see in the following HN Video, officers parked nearby on Ocean Street and walked into the Veterans Beach parking lot on foot. They approached a parked vehicle and ordered the driver out with his hands in the air. The driver turned out to be the suspect in question. He was detained in handcuffs while an officer recovered a handgun from below his vehicle’s dashboard.

The driver was then arrested for Assault By Means of a Dangerous Weapon.

The handgun turned out to be a BB gun that appeared identical to a real handgun. Officers are basing their charge on the report that the woman was placed in fear by a handgun. She had no way of knowing whether it was actually a BB gun or not. And when the suspect allegedly lifted his shirt to display the handgun, his alleged intentions were to have the woman believe he had a firearm.

The suspect was transported back to Barnstable Police Headquarters to be booked on the felony charge. His vehicle was then towed from the scene.
