Hyannis men arrested for robbing Chatham store… allegedly while armed and masked…
CHATHAM – Yesterday [Friday], at about 7:05PM, police officers rushed to The Corner Store at 1403 Old Queen Anne Road for an armed robbery.
Victims told police two armed men wearing masks had just robbed the store of what police describe as a “large amount of cash.”
During the investigation, Harwich Police stopped a vehicle with four occupants. Chatham and Harwich police continued to investigate, identifying and arresting two of the vehicle’s occupants.
Whilhelm Alvarez, age 19, of Hyannis was arrested and charged with Armed Robbery While Masked, and Breaking and Entering in the Daytime for a Felony.
Cesar Mata, age 19, of Hyannis was also arrested and charged with Armed Robbery While Masked, and Breaking and Entering in the Daytime for a Felony.
Further Charges may follow.
Mata and Alvarez are both being held over the long weekend without bail at the Barnstable House of Correction. They are scheduled to be arraigned in Orleans District Court on Tuesday, July 5, 2016.
The were no reported injuries to the public during the robbery.
The Chatham Police Department expressed appreciation for the assistance of the Harwich Police Department. They also credited witnesses with timely and accurate information which helped advance their case.
According to the Chatham Police, the case is still actively being investigated. Further charges and updated details may follow.
