Couple escapes injury after crash kills horse on Route 28, Marstons Mills… [HN VIDEO]
MARSTONS MILLS – A woman and her husband are extremely lucky to have escaped serious injury after their car crashed into a large horse that suddenly appeared out of nowhere in the middle of Route 28 early this morning.
As you will see in the following video, HN spoke with Jodi Howard who was the driver. She was still obviously “rattled” about the sudden crash. In a brief on-camera interview she expressed sadness about the horse… along with sadness about the heavy damage to her vehicle, which was no longer drivable. Off-camera, she also expressed her condolences to the owners of the horse.
It was shortly after 1:00 a.m. when police and firefighters responded to a stretch of Route 28 between South County Road and Route 149. Upon arrival they found the horse in the roadway just moments before it passed away without having to be put down.
Rescue evaluated the husband and wife who did not require further treatment.
A member of the Barnstable County Sheriff’s responded to document the scene with photos…
The couple’s vehicle needed to be removed from the scene on a flatbed while the driver’s mom arrived to give them both a ride home.
Police and a wrecker operator remained on scene for a period of time, working on the careful removal of the deceased horse from the roadway.
Police believe they may know where the horse had come from and are working on contacting the owner’s at the time of this report. [DEVELOPING]
The following HN Video highlights the entire scene. WARNING – Due to the subject matter, the following footage may be disturbing for some viewers. Viewer discretion is advised…
