FOGGY HN PHOTOS: “Osprey nest fire…”
HN NOTES: Aside from the pervasive Thursday evening fog, it was mostly normal stuff across the Mid-Cape last evening. Officers in Hyannis stopped to check on a small group after receiving a report of a disturbance which turned out to be no big deal and essentially a colossal waste of everyone’s time…
… and it may have been the fog that caused a young woman to drive off the roadway at the corner of West Main Street and Pitchers Way in Hyannis. The vehicle needed to be towed and her rather large family seemingly dropped down out of the inky heavens all at once, as if riding in on low hanging clouds in order to provide comfort during their loved one’s foggy “time of need.” It was quite an affair! As these were extremely congenial folks, who made it probably one of the most pleasant crash scenes I’ve been to in a while. (The young lady was not hurt.)
The only event, however, that really bordered on “out of the ordinary” was when an osprey nest began arcing atop some power lines in South Yarmouth, raining down sparks which ignited the shrubbery. Firefighters quickly handled the burning bush but had to call in an Eversource crew to deal with the burnt-up nest and damaged pole. It was believed the birds made it out and away from their nest safely… at least I couldn’t detect anything that smelled like fried chicken.
But no matter how one looks at it, it was a rough night for the bird community! 🙁
