INTERVIEWS: BBC tracks down British Lady who inadvertently called Barnstable Police to report traffic accident in UK… [AUDIO]
HYANNIS – Last week, Barnstable Police Officer Mark McWilliams fielded a call from Barnstaple England.
The female caller was trying to report a traffic accident in the Barnstaple area… in the United Kingdom.
Officer McWilliams politely and tactfully told the reporting party that it would be about a 6 hour response time to cross the Atlantic and investigate…
UPDATE: Since posting a lighthearted video with audio from the actual phone call, police in Barnstaple England posted it, and from there it has been shared across social media in the UK.
The video has been popular back here in the US as well, receiving thousands of views withing just hours of it being posted…
BBC Radio in Devon England reached out and spoke with HN during one of their broadcasts. The call captured the imagination of media and viewers and amazingly, the BBC was able to track down the British Lady who inadvertently contacted our local police.
Last I heard, BBC reporters were still actively trying to reach and interview Barnstable Police Officer McWilliams. Both listeners and radio hosts found the exchange endearing at a time when the world needs more moments of levity.
The following video has audio from the interview with HN’s Rob Bastille and BBC Radio hosts Matt and Kerry. The audio also captures a BBC interview with the British Lady who made the call!
Great stuff 🙂 And HN will provide updates if and when we hear from the Barnstable Police…
NECN was all over this! Nice job 🙂
