COPS: Man admits deliberately setting fire to West Yarmouth address… desired to set another fire… asked to be arrested…

Suspect Arrested for West Yarmouth Arson
On Wednesday September 7, 2016, the Yarmouth Fire and Police Departments, as well as the State Fire Marshall’s office, responded to a report of a structure fire at 72 Constance Ave in West Yarmouth. During the course of the investigation, it was determined that the house was abandoned and reported to be in the foreclosure process.
During the investigation, it was further determined that the fire was deliberately set.
On Sunday September 18, 2016, at approximately 10:56PM, the Yarmouth Police Department received a call from an individual identifying himself as Joseph Hathaway. Hathaway informed Yarmouth Police Emergency Dispatchers that he was at the burnt house on Constance Ave, and that he was responsible for setting the fire. Hathaway indicated that he desired to set another fire, and requested officers respond to arrest him.
Officers responded to the scene, and encountered Hathaway and he was brought to the Yarmouth Police Headquarters.
Hathaway was interviewed by Yarmouth Police Detective David Schneeweis and based on the results of the interview and evidence collected, Hathaway was taken into custody. He was held overnight and transported to the Barnstable district Court for arraignment yesterday morning.
