Kitchen fire displaced at least one family… [VIDEO]
HYANNIS – Police and firefighters quickly responded to 369 South Street this afternoon to put out a kitchen fire before it spread further…
The house needed to be quickly evacuated as firefighters checked for fire extending into walls after they just had knocked down the flames on the stove and some surrounding cabinets.
The inhabitants were cooking French fries on the stove top that ignited, with the flames growing out of control…
A young mom and her two young children were forced out into the cold with just the clothes on their backs… and needed to take refuge and be evaluated for smoke inhalation inside of an ambulance. Other residents were also forced out with just whatever they had on… A dog named Cesar also needed to evacuate during the fire and was being looked after by a neighbor while his owner saw to his family…
Due to the rapid response of police and firefighters nobody was seriously hurt and the damages were kept to a relative minimum.
Residents were allowed return to 3 of the 4 apartments… but according to sources, the apartment where the fire started was not inhabitable at this time…
South Street needed to be completely closed down to all traffic for a period of time.
