Yarmouth Police Seek Armed Robbery Suspect
On Tuesday December 8, 2015, at 1:46PM Yarmouth Police Department Patrol Officer Mary Gibney was dispatched to Stop and Shop on Long Pond Drive in South Yarmouth for a report of an armed robbery. The store manager reported that there was a male waiting outside and stated he had been robbed at knife point outside the store.
Patrol Officer Gibney arrived and immediately met with a Stop and Shop Loss Prevention Officer who was assisting the victim at his vehicle parked on the north side of the building. The victim provided a description of the suspect as follows: white male, approximately least 6′ tall, dark colored knit hat, dark colored mask, dark colored spring or windbreaker type jacket. The victim further reported that the suspect ran towards the back of Stop and Shop, through the fence into Swan Pond Village, briefly turned left the ran right.
Yarmouth Police Patrol Officers, Proactive Anti-Crime Officers, Detectives as well as K9 Officer Marc Thibeault and his partner Torres saturated the area looking for the suspect.
Additional information from the victim of the crime indicates that the suspect approached him on the north side of the Stop and Shop building and confronted him as he was placing groceries in his vehicle. The suspect threated the victim with a large knife and demanded money. The suspect obtained a small amount of cash and then ran off.

Initial HN coverage:
SOUTH YARMOUTH – For the second day in a row someone was robbed by a masked man wielding a knife in the Town of Yarmouth.
At about 1:59PM, police were notified that an older gentleman had just been robbed in the parking lot next to Stop and Shop at 55 Long Pond Drive.
The suspect was described as a white male, about 6 feet tall, skinny build, and about 180 pounds. He was reportedly wearing a dark colored mask, a dark colored hat, and a dark colored jacket during the robbery.
The suspect reportedly pulled a knife out of his pocket, pointed toward the victim as he said, “Do you think I’m kidding?”
The knife wielding robber then fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash toward the Swan Pond Village apartment buildings.
A Yarmouth Police K-9 unit began tracking from Stop and Shop toward a path which leads to the neighboring apartment buildings.
Massachusetts State Troopers also responded to assist Yarmouth Patrols with searching the Swan Pond Village neighborhood.
The investigation is ongoing and the suspect remains at large. It remains uncertain whether today’s robbery is related to a similar armed robbery which occurred at Timmy’s Roast Beef yesterday evening. In yesterday’s robbery the suspect also had his face masked (or covered with a white t-shirt) and he had also wielded a knife.
Both armed robberies are being investigated by the Yarmouth Police Department.
The following video footage shows investigators speaking with the victim. It also highlights search efforts.
