FATAL CRASH: Major head-on collision in Cotuit…

UPDATE — 9/22/15 — 1:45AM — Barnstable Police Press Release:
On Monday September 21, 2015 at approximately 8:16pm the Barnstable Police Department received several 911 calls reporting a motor vehicle crash on Rte 28 in Cotuit near Stub Toe Rd. Multiple police officers were dispatched to scene along with emergency personnel from Centerville Osterville Marstons Mills Fire Department.
First responding officers reported serious injuries at the scene. Rte 28 was closed to all traffic in the area of the crash.
A Chrysler sedan being operated by Thomas Levesque, age 64 from East Falmouth was heading west on Rte 28. The Chrysler crossed over the centerline into the oncoming lane of traffic. The Chrysler struck the left side mirror of a Infiniti sedan heading east on Rte 28. The Chrysler continued heading west on Rte 28 veering farther into the oncoming lane of traffic. The Chrysler struck a Mercedes Benz head-on in the east bound lane of Rte 28.
Both vehicles suffered extensive damage. Mr. Levesque suffered severe trauma from the crash. He was treated at the scene for his injuries and transported to Cape Cod Hospital by ambulance. Mr. Levesque was pronounced deceased a short time later after arriving at the hospital. No other passengers were in Mr. Levesque’s car.
The operator of the Mercedes Benz, Phillip Doherty was treated at the scene and transported to Cape Cod Hospital by ambulance. No other passengers were in Mr. Doherty’s car.
The crash is under investigation by the Barnstable Police Reconstruction Unit.

COTUIT – DEVELOPING – Both drivers were injured in a head-on collision on Route 28 this evening.
At about 8:15PM, Barnstable Police and Cotuit Fire & Rescue rushed to the scene in the area of Route 28 and Stub Toe Road. Both vehicles were still in the roadway and Route 28 needed to be completely shut down for about an hour and a half.
One driver received serious life-threatening injuries and the other was also placed on a stretcher with less serious injuries.
A police photographer, supervisor, and accident reconstruction expert were heading to the scene according to radio traffic…
One vehicle was a Mercedes, the other a Chrysler… its uncertain what caused the head-on collision…
The crash scene is being investigated by the Barnstable Police Department.

The call came in at around 6:00PM. Everyone was reportedly out of the home.
The fire started in a bedroom in the rear of the home. The flames were quickly knocked down, but there was reportedly extensive fire and smoke damage.
A woman was given oxygen and was transported to CCH for smoke inhalation and burns. Sources at the scene said her injuries were not life-threatening…

Hyannis man arrested 16th time for drunk driving…

WEST BARNSTABLE – This past Friday evening, Patrolman Matthew Lounsbury was on routine patrol when dispatch notified area cruisers of a blue pickup truck operating erratically on Route 132 toward the highway.
At about 9:50PM, Officer Lounsbury observed the truck near the overpass and initiated a traffic stop which ended up in the commuter parking area behind Burger king.
Officer Lounsbury also told HN he observed the driver and passenger attempting to switch places…
The driver did not have a driver’s license, but did present a Massachusetts ID only card. The driver’s license had been previously revoked for being a habitual traffic offender.
According to Officer Lounsbury, the driver failed all field sobriety tests.
The male driver was then subsequently arrested for OUI and transported back to BPD Headquarters where he refused to take a breathalyzer test.
Frederick Yeomans, age 66, of Oakland Road in Hyannis was charged with Operating Under the Influence of Alcohol, Driving with a Revoked License, Marked Lanes violations, and having Open Containers of alcohol inside the vehicle.
Friday night’s arrest was the 16th time Yeomans had been arrested for OUI. Twelve of his previous OUI arrests were convictions. Three of his earlier OUI arrests had been dismissed.
The truck reportedly had a pile of 40oz. Budweiser and vodka bottles…
According to a record check, Yeomans reportedly has a 7-page-long history of driving infractions.
HN NOTE: All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. But let’s pray that our courts are able to muster a lick of common sense this time…
